10 x 3mm Mild Steel Thin Metal Strips

Our mild steel thin metal strips are available in S275 grade. Engineers and contractors use flat bar extensively in the manufacture of support braces, latches, mechanical parts, industrial tools, etc., as well as for many DIY projects.

As a result of its good to excellent formability, mild steel flat bar can easily be joined by welding processes or by means of fixings such as rivets, bolts, and screws.

With its low strength, good machinability, and weldability S275 is an excellent low carbon steel specification.

Flat bar is also known as Metric Flat, Mild Steel Flat Bar, Metric Mild Steel Flat, Stainless Flat and Steel Strip.

Mild plain steel flat bar strip offers very little corrosion resistance. Mild steel is a quality strong metal. However it is not rust proof and may do so over time. Please use galvanised or stainless steel if you need resistance to rust. If the product does show signs off rust then simply get this off with WD40 or fine sanding.

Mild steel is magnetic.

Please handle with care when using this product as there may be sharp edges from the cutting process.

Steel Bar

Mild steel bar is a great multi purpose metal working material. It can be cut to size, bent, drilled, painted and welded.

Key features of mild steel angled steel:

• Bending & Forming – Fair. You could only bend this tubing with bending tools but not by hand
• Corrosion Resistance – Poor. Mild steel is uncoated, so there is no additional protection against corrosion
• Machining & Grinding – Good. Mild steel is the metal choice for many forms of machining and grinding, but stainless steel can also offer good results
• Welding – Excellent. You could easily weld with this mild steel angle iron to suit your requirements
• Painting – Good. We suggest that a mild steel product is always used when a layer of paint needs to be applied. Galvanised and stainless steel will not take paint
• Wear Resistance – Fair. As there is no protective layer, we suggest stainless steel or galvanised steel if you require a stronger wear resistance

Hot Rolled Steel

Hot rolled steel is easier to produce. It is simpler to shape and form. It’s production is a basic mill process wherein the steel is rolled at high temperature. It begins as a piece of still billet which is then heat treated up to 1700 degrees Fahrenheit (926° Celsius) in a blast furnace. The piece of steel is then rolled through the mill into the desired shape. The entire heat treatment process is carried out at very high temperatures.

Hot rolled steel is produced and recommended for applications where precision is not essential and tolerances are flexible.

The main advantages of hot rolled us that it is easier to produce and as a consequence it is cheaper in cost than cold rolled steel plate.

The disadvantages of steel produced using the hot rolled method is that dimensional imperfections can occur. These are caused by the heating (expanding) and the subsequent cooling down (shrink, warpage). Hot rolled steel can have a rougher surface texture, which can be easily buffed out.
